Pelargonium cucullatum is a widely known species, famous not only for its natural beauty but also as one of the primary ancestors of the “Regal” or “Imperial” Pelargoniums (Pelargonium x domesticum). Its distinctive leaves are slightly concave and hooded—a trait reflected in its Latin name cucullus, meaning “little hood” or “cap.” These tomentose, toothed leaves are soft to the touch and pleasantly fragrant. The flowers are a striking, vibrant magenta, and while they are simple (single-petalled), they offer a visual impact similar to the ‘flore pleno‘ form.
